ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Alex! Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me in your search for the right clinician to support you on your journey of self-discovery. I am passionate about the benefits of therapy and in taking time to slow down and create a deeper connection with yourself. I am a warm and open clinician and am deeply curious about each person's unique experience. I feel honored to be invited into the lives of my clients.
I believe humans are beautifully flawed and complicated and that by learning to accept and appreciate our imperfections, we can gain a sense of peace and increased compassion for ourselves and others. Increasingly, the field of neuroscience is providing evidence supporting what many clinicians empirically already knew, people are forever growing and changing. As Dr. Daniel Siegel explains," Interpersonal neurobiology states that these new patterns will have a physical, physiological, and emotional effect regardless of what age at which they are discovered. With every new idea, attitude, behavior, or piece of knowledge people obtain, they are physically changing and influencing the construct of their brains." Interpersonal connection is the access-point to creating meaningful change in our lives from a place of kindness, compassion and free from judgement.
I have been working with individuals, couples and families since 2016 and have worked with clients of all ages and at all stages of life. I went back to school after the birth of my first daughter and obtained my Master of Social Work from Boston University in 2016. I have advanced training in the treatment of trauma, substance-use disorders, and anxiety and depression. I use a variety of different evidenced-based interventions including: Cognitive, Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing.
I grew up on Nantucket Island and lived there until fall of 2020, when I relocated to Northern Virginia. I find peace in nature, whether hiking in the mountains or enjoying the salty sea air. I look forward to connecting with you.
